Freshers Survival Guide

One of the best things about starting University is the Freshers Survival Guide, a week of your life that you will never forget… well, maybe a little.

What is the Fresher’s Week exactly? Technically, it’s supposed to be a week of networking, joining societies and meeting new people at Uni events… but unofficially, the Fresher’s Week is a full, straight week of partying, pre-drinks and hitting the clubs.

Some words of advice, though. First of all, before you do anything – unpack! As tempting as it sounds to just “do it later”, I promise you, you will not have time. Fresher’s Week equals no sleep! You’ll be so busy attending Uni events and night-outs that you’ll end up living out of your suitcase for the first month.

Whilst we’re on the subject of University events, make sure you attend the Fresher’s Fair to grab bags on top of bags of free stuff! Typically, University life means broke life, so you’ll definitely appreciate that free notebook and a pen for your lectures.

University events during the Fresher’s are a great opportunity to meet new people, especially as everyone will be in the same position as you – a newbie trying to make friends, so you won’t feel out of place at all. It’s also very good to join a society. You’ll find stalls of all different type of Societies where you can fit in, based on similar interests, whether it’s religion, ethnicity, hobbies etc.

Moving to a new place can be difficult but it’s a great opportunity to grow as a person. You will meet so many different people, discover new things and make memories that you will cherish for a lifetime.

Now that you know what opportunities are in store for you, let’s not forget about Night Life Freshers Survival Guide Every local club in every city has student offers on throughout all of September and October for the Freshers only, so make sure you book your tickets online in advance, rather than buying them at the door, because THAT will break your bank account. The best sites to book or find events for a night out in London are:

As fun as central clubs are, most universities often have a bar/club for students to socialise at. They usually offer all access wristbands or lanyards for you to buy so you can attend all of the university nightlife events instead of having to pay for a ticket to each one separately.

Fresher’s Week will always be hectic, but remember that you still need to get home by the end of the night! Lucky for you, every student city operates a great nigh bus service. You need to be careful, though, as the buses run on reduced times, which means that there will be a bus every 30 minutes rather than every few minutes, and depending on how far you are from your accommodation, it could be a long journey home. On the bright side, this does give you the opportunity to bond with your flatmates and have a laugh about the night.

All in all, be sensible, but enjoy yourself! University life helps you shape your future and teaches you through trial and error on how to become an independent adult.
