What is the DET course?

Diploma in Education and Training (DET) programme is a level 5 professional course, developed and recognised by the Society for Education and Training. DET course finishes with an ‘in-service’ qualification that has been designed to provide initial teacher training as a course. The qualification is on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) as level 5 diploma and extends from investigation and research into the current practice theories and models that are related to education and training, as well as the development of good teaching system.

The DET qualification programme is usually delivered as a two-year part-time course with level 4 being covered during the first year, Level 5 within year 2. It is ideal for those who are already in a full teaching role. The Diploma in Education and Training is a minimum qualification to obtain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, that can enable you to teach in schools and colleges.

The DET course provides a practical and analytical approach towards the aspects of training and education that covers planning, designing, learning, teaching, assessing, and supportive learning. Students will also  analyse various theories and principles of education and training and be given the opportunity to embed all these during teaching and practice.

To obtain a Diploma in Education and Training Level 5, you must need to provide evidence of 100 hours in teaching and overall 8 hours of observation in teaching. For the graded observation, at least 2 of these should be graded at Grade 2 or Ofsted’s standards. The observer or the student must be qualified to at least Level 5 or be a specialist in their subject areas.

The DET qualification is suitable for:

The entry requirements a successful applicant must present for a DET course are as follows:

  • A minimum of 100 hours of teaching experience
  • Level 2 skills in English and/or mathematics, or Level 3 in the case you are taking units in teaching literacy or numeracy
  • Non-academic requirements that include a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and declaration of criminal convictions

Completion of a DET course can provide the students to exhibit there learning skills in order to:

The Content of the DET Training Course 

The DET course gives you a minimum of 120 credits, divided into four main units. If you already have the CTLLS or CET qualifications, then only three of the following four main units will be mandatory:

  • Developing learning, teaching and assessment in education and training
  • Principles, theories, and models in education and training
  • Teaching and learning with assessment in education and training
  • development and wider professional practice in education and training

Diploma in Education and Training at Mont Rose College

Mont Rose College of Management and Sciences offers Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training course, approved by BTEC Edexcel. It is available as a one-year full-time course with the requirement of 21 hours as attendance per week in terms of time.

MRC offers 120 credit hours on the successful completion of the course with the teaching practice for about 100 hours. The students are provided with the real-time training that can help them in enhancing their teaching role for a better career.
