Course Overview

This course is part of our Short Courses Series, especially designed to meet the needs of our local community and our students who also come from disadvantaged background.

The course will achieve a positive impact in ensuring inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning increasing employment opportunities with efficient progression by:

  • Understanding the soft skills
  • Creating care plans or risk assessments
  • Learning basic healthcare skills
  • Treating minor injuries and learning introductory first aid skills
  • Acquiring numeracy skills and person-centred care expertise

Who Should Attend?

This course is specifically designed for individuals, mainly health and social care students and residents from our local community including staff of local care homes, personnel working in pharmacies, healthcare students from other providers, and pre-16 and post-16 pupils from local schools who have an interest in excelling in the healthcare sector.

Course Contents

Part 1 – Person-centred Care (3 hours)

  • Understanding principles of care.
  • Acquiring the soft skills essential for delivering effective care services e.g. communication skills, interpersonal skills, and leadership skills through role-play activities.
  • Learning risk assessment.
  • Developing an effective person-centred care plan.
  • Implementing a person-centred care plan to support the service user by following the principles of care.
  • Reflecting on the care plan and identifying areas of improvement.

Part 2 – Clinical techniques – Measuring Body’s Basic Functions (1.5 hours)

  • Measuring and interpreting vital signs
  • Calculating BMI

Part 3 – GP Prescription and Drug Dosage (1.5 hours)

  • Understanding and calculating drug dosages
  • Managing minor injuries
