International Women’s Day is an important moment to reflect on the progress made in gender equality and the work that still lies ahead. Recently, representatives from Mont Rose College had the privilege of attending a special event at the UK Parliament, celebrating the achievements of British Pakistani women across fields such as politics, business, law, and community leadership.
Events like this highlight the strong connection between education and real-world impact. Education is one of the most powerful tools for empowerment, helping individuals build confidence, develop skills, and create new opportunities. By engaging with policymakers and community leaders, colleges can better understand how to support students and communities in meaningful ways.
Celebrating Women in Leadership
The event recognised the significant contributions of British Pakistani women in shaping society. It brought together inspiring individuals who are making a difference through leadership, innovation, and dedication. A panel of distinguished speakers shared their experiences and insights, including Baroness Taylor of Stevenage, Sir Stephen Timms MP, Lord Wajid Khan, and several Members of Parliament. They discussed the importance of representation, the challenges women still face, and the need to create more opportunities for future generations. The event was made possible by the efforts of Councillor Shahid Nadeem, Councillor Shabina Asad Qayyum, and MP Yasmin Qureshi, whose work ensured these achievements were recognised on a national platform.
Mont Rose College’s Role in Empowerment
A key moment of the event was the address by Mont Rose College Principal, Sayeda Zain. She highlighted the college’s commitment to supporting women through education and creating opportunities for personal and professional growth. She emphasised that education goes beyond the classroom. It is about giving people the tools and confidence to succeed in their careers and contribute to their communities.
The Women Empowerment Hub
One of the initiatives presented was the Women’s Empowerment Hub at Mont Rose College. This programme offers free skills workshops and courses to women in the London Borough of Redbridge. The aim is to remove barriers to education and provide practical skills that can help women return to work, progress in their careers, or start their own businesses. By supporting women at different stages of their journey, the Hub plays an important role in strengthening the local community.
Representing Mont Rose College
Mont Rose College was proudly represented at the event by Vice Principal Renata Kairine, Hospitality Course Leader Pratika Teyssedou, and members of the Marketing Team, Ivelina Ivanova and Umber Mokal. Their presence reflected the college’s commitment to leadership, collaboration, and community engagement.
Looking Ahead
The discussions at the UK Parliament are part of a broader effort to continue supporting women in leadership roles. As a subsequent step, Mont Rose College will host a Women’s Research Conference on 12 May 2026 with the theme “Barriers to Breakthroughs,” bringing together students, professionals, and community leaders. The conference will focus on sharing ideas, building connections, and creating practical strategies to support women’s development in education and the workplace.
