Thursday, 27th March, was an exciting and impactful day for Mont Rose College. We partnered with AccessHE to deliver Primary Futures sessions to 120 Year 6 pupils at Bonner Primary School across its Bethnal Green and Mile End sites. The event brought together vibrant young minds eager to explore the world of Higher Education (HE) and begin thinking about their future aspirations. As part of our ongoing commitment to widening participation and community engagement, Mont Rose College was proud to contribute to this initiative, creating an enriching and inspiring experience for the students.
Through a carefully tailored programme, the sessions introduced pupils to Higher Education, offering them an early glimpse into university life, various career pathways, and the valuable skills they can develop through further studies. The sessions were designed to be informative yet accessible, ensuring that the pupils—aged just 10 to 11—could fully engage with the topic. The fun, interactive activities, real-life scenarios, and relatable examples helped students connect the dots between education, careers, and personal aspirations.
From exploring what university is and why it matters to discussing different routes into HE, such as A-levels, apprenticeships, and vocational qualifications, the sessions gave pupils a comprehensive and realistic view of their future opportunities. Special emphasis was placed on addressing common concerns and myths about higher education, including affordability, accessibility, and relevance. Through engaging Q&A sessions, pupils asked thoughtful questions and shared their curiosities, showcasing their developing understanding and genuine interest.

The atmosphere throughout both sessions was electric. Students demonstrated enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to think big about their futures. This was more than just a workshop for Mont Rose College—it was an investment in the next generation. By opening their eyes to the potential that higher education can unlock, we play a vital role in raising aspirations, especially for pupils from underrepresented backgrounds. These early interventions are crucial in shaping confident, motivated learners who will carry these insights as they transition into secondary school.
From a broader perspective, initiatives like Primary Futures perfectly align with Mont Rose College’s strategic vision of fostering community relationships and promoting the value of education to all. Collaborating with AccessHE and local primary schools allows us to connect directly with young learners and their families, positioning Mont Rose College as a trusted and forward-thinking institution dedicated to inclusivity and student success.
Mont Rose College is excited to continue working with AccessHE and similar partners to deliver impactful programmes like Primary Futures. We are committed to supporting the community and creating pathways for young learners to realise their potential, thrive in education, and contribute positively to society.
