On Monday, 1st April, Mont Rose College came together to celebrate Autism Awareness, fostering inclusivity, understanding, and support for individuals with autism. The event was a remarkable success, with students, staff, and special guests participating in a meaningful learning, advocacy, and fundraising day.

The college campus was beautifully decorated in blue, the official colour for Autism Awareness, with banners and posters displayed to highlight key messages about autism acceptance and support. The atmosphere was one of unity and commitment to raising awareness for this important cause.

Mont Rose College was honoured to welcome distinguished guests who played a significant role in the event. DL Mike Brace, a passionate advocate for disability rights, delivered an inspiring speech, sharing his experiences and insights on overcoming challenges. His words resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the importance of fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with autism.
Steve Dixon from Sycamore Trust also addressed the gathering, accompanied by Robert and Joseph from the organisation. They provided valuable knowledge on autism, discussing practical strategies for supporting individuals on the spectrum. Their talk emphasised the importance of awareness, understanding, and empathy in ensuring that people with autism are given equal opportunities to thrive.

One of the highlights of the event was the charitable raffle draw. Students enthusiastically sold raffle tickets to raise funds for the Sycamore Trust, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals with autism and their families. The lucky draw created excitement while reinforcing the spirit of generosity and community involvement among students and staff.
Following the speeches and raffle, students participated in an Autism Awareness Walk. This symbolic walk demonstrated solidarity and a powerful statement of support for individuals with autism. As they walked, students engaged in conversations about autism, spreading awareness beyond the college community.
In addition to the awareness walk, students also took the initiative to contribute to environmental well-being by participating in a litter-picking activity. This act of social responsibility aligned with the college’s broader commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

The Autism Awareness event at Mont Rose College was a testament to the power of education, advocacy, and community engagement. Everyone involved played a role in fostering a more inclusive society by coming together to learn, share, and support. The college remains committed to raising awareness about autism and supporting individuals on the spectrum, ensuring that Mont Rose College is where diversity and inclusion thrive.
Mont Rose College extends heartfelt gratitude to DL Mike Brace, Steve Dixon, Robert, Joseph, Sycamore Trust, and all the students and staff who participated in making this event a success. Together, we can continue to build a more inclusive and understanding world for all.
