Last week, Mont Rose College hosted an engaging and energetic Drum Circle event in collaboration with Drum Sticks, bringing together students and staff for a unique experience focused on wellbeing, stress relief, and community connection.
The session began with a short, guided meditation, encouraging everyone to reflect on the things that make them happy, followed by a moment to think about the challenges and stresses they experience in everyday life. This created a calm and supportive atmosphere, helping participants feel relaxed and fully present before the musical activities began.
Following the meditation, the Drum Sticks team introduced participants to a range of basic rhythmic patterns and counting techniques. As the session progressed, each activity became more interactive, challenging, and dynamic. Students and staff worked together to build confidence with rhythm while developing teamwork, concentration, and communication skills through music.
One of the most exciting moments of the event came towards the end of the session, when participants were divided into two groups, each performing different rhythms at the same time. The combination of beats created the feeling of a live percussion band, with everyone contributing to the shared musical experience.
The event concluded with a vibrant freestyle celebration where students and staff were encouraged to express themselves creatively. Some participants danced, others sang, while many experimented with different rhythms using the musical instruments provided by Drum Sticks. The room was filled with energy, laughter, and enthusiasm, creating a positive and memorable atmosphere for everyone involved.
More than just a musical activity, the Drum Circle event highlighted the importance of wellbeing, self-expression, and community engagement. By the end of the session, participants had not only released stress, but also left feeling refreshed, energised, and noticeably more positive and connected with one another.
Mont Rose College would like to thank everyone who participated in making the event such an enjoyable and uplifting experience. Together, we continue to create opportunities that support student wellbeing and strengthen our college community.
