Mont Rose College proudly hosted Odd Socks Day on 25th November 2025, an inspiring event organised by our Top-Up Hospitality Management students. Held in the lively setting of the Mont Rose House Cafeteria, the event brought together students, staff, and our special guests for a morning dedicated to celebrating individuality and promoting kindness.
A Celebration of Being Yourself
Odd Socks Day is all about embracing what makes each of us unique. By wearing mismatched socks, attendees symbolically celebrated diversity and reinforced the idea that everyone belongs, regardless of their background, personality, or appearance. Its aim was to raise awareness to:
- Stand against bullying by encouraging empathy and respect.
- Celebrate diversity within the college community.
- Raise awareness of mental well-being, reminding students that it is okay to be different, to seek help, and to support one another.
A Warm and Welcoming Atmosphere
The morning began with a warm welcome, followed by a vibrant mix of food, drinks, and fun activities. Guests enjoyed hot beverages, flavoured water, fruit, cakes, cookies, and snacks, which were all carefully arranged by the Hospitality Management students.
As attendees mingled, they took part in the lively “Show Your Socks” activity, sharing the stories behind their sock choices and enjoying friendly competitions. Table tennis and pool added an element of relaxed fun that brought everyone together.
Student Leadership in Action
At the heart of the event was the brilliant organisation and teamwork demonstrated by the five Hospitality Management students. Each delivered a 3-minute speech, sharing insights into the event’s purpose, the importance of community, and reflections on the preparation process.
Their attention to detail, from décor and refreshments to gifts and sustainability measures, showcased their practical skills and professionalism. Decorations included balloons, colourful accessories, hand-made positive messages, and a dedicated photo backdrop. The event also incorporated sustainable practices with clearly labelled bins for food waste, recycling, and general waste.
Special Guest Messages
Reem, our Welfare Officer, delivered a thoughtful speech, emphasising wellbeing, support services, and the importance of inclusivity on campus. Their presence helped reinforce the college’s commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for all students.
A Heartwarming Finish
The morning concluded with a lively photo session, where we gifted flowers and socks to our special guests, and awarded a prize for the best socks, chosen by the student organisers. A closing message of thanks wrapped up the event at noon, leaving everyone smiling and uplifted.
