Mont Rose College recently hosted the Environment Day Programme, a meaningful event designed to inspire collective action for sustainability and raise awareness about pressing ecological issues. The programme showcased the vibrant participation of local leaders, community groups, and students, all working together towards environmental harmony.

Welcome & Agenda Briefing
The event commenced promptly at 10:00 AM on 03/06/2025 with a warm welcome by Ms. Sheetal Kaur and Ms Eulogia Chimenga, who set an energetic and inclusive tone for the day. Their opening remarks offered a clear overview of the programme’s structure, emphasising the importance of collaboration, participation, and education in achieving long-term environmental goals. A series of impactful addresses followed, delivered by distinguished guests who brought with them a wealth of experience and passion for sustainability:
- Cllr. Beverley Brewer, Mayor of Redbridge, underscored the urgency of community-wide environmental reform and reiterated the council’s dedication to ecological sustainability.
- Cllr. Tanweer Khan, Mayfield Ward Councillor, reflected on the pivotal role of local governance in supporting grassroots environmental initiatives and fostering behavioural change at the neighbourhood level.
Representatives from local environmental groups provided invaluable grassroots perspectives and practical solutions for urban ecological challenges:
- Mrs. Ros, Southern Director of Redbridge Green Fair and Community engagement facilitator
- Mr. Peter Musgrave of Transition Town Ilford shared their community’s journey in promoting sustainable living through local engagement and education.
- Mrs. Ruth Musgrave, also of Transition Town Ilford, presented the “Growing Food & Growing Friends” initiative, which connects food production with community wellbeing.
These presentations resonated deeply with attendees, sparking meaningful dialogue around both individual and collective environmental responsibilities.
Green Pledge: A Digital Commitment to Action
Attendees were then encouraged to take part in the Green Pledge—a symbolic yet action-oriented commitment to reducing plastic waste as part of the global #BeatPlasticPollution campaign. By scanning a displayed QR code, participants digitally pledged their support. The enthusiastic participation of dignitaries, students, and community members underscored the collective momentum towards eco-conscious living.

Appreciation Ceremony: Honouring Contributors
Following the pledge, an appreciation segment was held to acknowledge the efforts and contributions of all key participants. Special guests were presented with thoughtful mementoes—Mont Rose-branded eco-conscious gifts—as tokens of gratitude for their support, guidance, and continued advocacy for sustainability.
Hands-on Action: Student-Led Litter Picking Drive
The programme concluded with a powerful act of environmental service: a student-led Litter Picking Drive. Coordinated by Mrs. Vasilita Rotaru and the Student Union, this activity saw enthusiastic teams of students take to the surrounding campus areas, collecting litter and raising awareness about waste management. This initiative not only enhanced the local environment but also instilled a sense of environmental accountability and pride in the student body.

Conclusions
The Environment Day Programme produced several notable achievements:
- Strong community engagement: Active participation from civic leaders, volunteers, and students demonstrated a shared commitment to sustainability.
- Collaborative synergy: The event successfully brought together stakeholders from various sectors—government, education, and community organisations—creating fertile ground for ongoing partnerships.
- Educational impact: Through inspirational talks and interactive activities, attendees gained greater awareness of sustainable living practices and the urgent need to address environmental challenges. Environment Day is not a stand-alone event but part of a larger, ongoing movement. The enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated throughout the day must now be channelled into long-term initiatives. Continued engagement with local projects, sustained educational efforts, and consistent community action are key to driving meaningful environmental change.
We invite all participants and supporters to stay connected through our upcoming announcements and initiatives. Together, we can transform awareness into impact and ensure a healthier, greener future for all.
Let’s keep the momentum alive—because every action counts.
