What is a Bachelor of Law?

The main purpose of Juris Doctorate course is to prepare student with an overall knowledge of the legal system and the laws that govern the country. After earning a JD degree, it is optional to earn a one-year Master of Law (LLM) as this JD itself is a professional degree. But if in case a foreign lawyer wants to practice in the countries that require a JD degree, then he/she must have completed the LLM degree. In order to proceed with this postgraduate degree in law (LLM degree), the US students must have completed their undergraduate degree with the passing certification from the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).

An LLB degree is no longer available in the United States. Instead, they have introduced JD and it is a minimum requirement for anyone wanting to practise law there.
