Monday 24th January is the International Day of Education. The United Nations General Assembly declared it as such back in December 2018. The day was set to celebrate the role of education in global peace and development.
As a first class education provider, we would like to emphasise the importance of education in this week’s post.
Education is a key to society’s growth and evolution. The most vital thing education offers is empowerment. Without education, we would lack skills and capacity that are necessary for many tasks, fields, activities, etc. The mental agility that education equips us with empowers us to move forward with ideas, plans, dreams, etc.
Similarly, education International Day of Education provides us with the ability to make informed decisions and thus, claim respect from others. For example, research shows that educated women are more likely to stand up to gender bias.
Next, education also helps to erase borders. When more people have access to high quality education, there is more of a bridge between borders that typically divide people, i.e. cultures, countries, etc.
Additionally, education is an aid in building community. When someone is educated to a high level, they are more likely to see the value in uplifting their community, thus creating a safer, more stable community around them. This could come in many forms, such as adding a service to the area, or volunteering, etc.Lastly, education is important in helping you land a high income, thus leading to fulfilling career opportunities.
For instance, when applying for a job, the lower the educational requirement listed when applying, the more applicants. The higher the educational requirement on a job posting, the less applicants – thus improving your chances of landing the role! To stand out from the crown, educating yourself and equipping yourself with as much knowledge and skills as possible is of the utmost importance.
In this way, education is a tool that can – and should – be used to improve the quality of your life in a variety of ways.
